Terms of Business

Fees

Fees are determined by the length of time spent on a case and according to the drugs, materials, consumables and diets used. All fees, drug and diet charges are subject to VAT at the current rate. Clients will receive an itemised receipt for every consultation, surgical procedure or transaction. Where possible you will be informed of the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your cat. Further information on the prices of medicines is available on request.

Estimates of Treatment Costs

An estimate is always provided where an animal is admitted for hospitalisation or a surgical procedure. We try to be as realistic as possible with estimating costs of treatment, however if during the course of the treatment it looks likely that the estimate will be exceeded we will always try and contact you on the telephone numbers provided. In the event we cannot contact you, then we will undertake any additional work where we feel it is in the interests of the patient, and you would be liable for those costs.

Methods of Payment

We accept cash and most credit and debit cards as payment. We do not accept cheques. As we are not a licensed credit broker we are unable to set up payment plans.

We do not undertake Direct Claims with insurance companies so please ensure you have the funds to cover payment of the treatment you agree to. We will always help you with completion of insurance documentation and will make an administration charge of £24 including VAT to reflect our time doing this.

Settlement Terms

All accounts are due for settlement at the end of each consultation, on the discharge of a pet or on the collection of drugs/diets. Should an account not be settled within seven days, a reminder will be sent and may include an additional accounting fee in respect of administrative costs incurred by us. Further reminders will incur further charges as will referral to our debt collection agency.

We do pursue all debts as we feel it is unfair on the majority of our clients to pay extra to cover the costs incurred by a small minority who try and avoid paying for the care given to their cat.

Clients who are unable to settle their accounts at the time of provision of veterinary services should discuss the matter as soon as possible with the Veterinary Surgeon or senior team member present. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. major surgical procedures) it may be possible to arrange payment by instalments, subject to certain conditions.

Pet Health Insurance

We strongly recommend the principle of insuring pets against illness or accidents. It is the client’s responsibility to settle the account and then claim the fees from the insurance company. Please click ‘here’ for more information (please add a link to Pet Insurance Page)

There are many different insurance providers out there. While you take the time to decide, we can provide a Petplan leaflet which gives you 4 weeks free insurance cover. Please ask for further details.

Medicinal Products

Pets requiring long-term medication must be examined by our veterinary surgeons at regular intervals. This interval will vary between 1 and 6 months depending on the case and the judgement of the vet.

Some of our flea and worm treatments are Prescription Only Medicines and can only be dispensed to pets that have been examined by our veterinary surgeon within the last 12 months; these examinations may incur a charge, however as most of our patients receive an annual health-check and vaccination, they would not normally need to be seen in addition to this in order to buy flea and worm treatment over the counter.

The Medicines Act requires that we use only veterinary licensed products when treating your animal. In the event of a veterinary licensed product being unavailable, we reserve the right to use a product licensed for another species after carrying out the appropriate risk/benefit analysis. You may be asked to sign an “off label” consent form.

We can provide a written prescription for a medicinal product subject to certain conditions and a fee will be payable to us for this service.

In Patient Care

Our clinic is open during the day and we aim to provide the highest quality care, procedures and treatments for our patients. However, due to our small team, we are unable to staff the clinic overnight, except in extenuating circumstances. In order to provide the best possible care, any patients requiring overnight treatment will need to be transferred to Ribble Vets unless the patient is too sick to travel. Ribble Vets will continue inpatient care and treatment with the consent of the owner.

Emergency Cover

Outside of our normal working hours emergency cover is provided by Ribble Vets in Penwortham. For further information and directions click here.

An emergency fee will be payable, in addition to any treatment received.

Referrals

We do our best to provide the highest standard of medical care for all our patients. Some treatments require referral to specialist centres and veterinary hospitals. Referral is discussed with the owner during consultation, including price estimates, discussion around insurance options and potential time frames. We will then contact the appropriate clinic and handle all the forms and case requirements. Once complete, the owner will be contacted by the referral centre directly and they will provide the required treatment. We will continue to be at the end of the phone for any concerns or queries if required.

Second Opinions and Ownership of Records

We hope that you will always be satisfied with our service and patient treatment. If you wish to receive a second opinion, we are happy to discuss this with you. All documentation including case records, radiographs, and similar documents, are the property of, and will be retained by, Just Cats Veterinary Clinic Ltd. Copies will be forwarded, on request, to another veterinary surgeon taking over the case. We reserve the right to make an administration charge for this where we feel the workload involved justifies such.

Complaints

We hope that clients never have reason to complain about the standards of service received from our veterinary clinic. However, if there does appear to be cause for complaint, this should be put in writing to the clinic or an appointment made to discuss the issue with the practice owner.
