Terms of Business
Fees are determined by the length of time spent on a case and according to the drugs, materials, consumables and diets used. A printed fee list is available on request. All fees, drug and diet charges are subject to VAT at the current rate. Clients will receive an itemised fee sheet for every consultation, surgical procedure or transaction.
Estimates of Treatment Costs
An estimate is always provided where an animal is admitted for hospitalisation or a surgical procedure. We try to be as realistic as possible with estimating costs of treatment, however if during the course of the treatment it looks likely that the estimate will be exceeded we will always try and contact you on the telephone numbers provided. In the event we cannot contact you, then we will undertake any additional work where we feel it is in the interests of the patient, and you would be liable for those costs.
Methods of Payment
We accept cash and most credit and debit cards as payment. We do not accept cheques. As we are not a licensed credit broker we are unable to set up payment plans.
We do not undertake Direct Claims with insurance companies so please ensure you have the funds to cover payment of the treatment you agree to. We will always help you with completion of insurance documentation, but will make a small administration charge of £8.00 including VAT to reflect our time doing this.
All accounts are due for settlement at the end of each consultation, on the discharge of a pet or on the collection of drugs/diets. Should an account not be settled within seven days, a reminder will be sent and may include an additional accounting fee in respect of administrative costs incurred by us. Further reminders will incur further charges as will referral to our debt collection agency.
We do pursue all debts as we feel it is unfair on the majority of our clients to pay extra to cover the costs incurred by a small minority who try and avoid paying for the care given to their cat.
Clients who are unable to settle their accounts at the time of provision of veterinary services should discuss the matter as soon as possible with the Head Nurse. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. major surgical procedures) it may be possible to arrange payment by instalments, subject to certain conditions.
Pet Health Insurance
We strongly recommend the principle of insuring pets against illness or accidents. It is the client’s responsibility to settle the account and then claim the fees from the insurance company.
We recommend Pet Plan Insurance, and can provide a leaflet which gives you 4 weeks free insurance cover if you take out a policy with them. We recommend them because of their excellent history of paying out for legitimate claims and because they also cover most dental problems which other insurance companies do not. Please ask for further details.
Ownership of Records
All documentation including case records, radiographs, and similar documents, are the property of, and will be retained by, Just Cats Veterinary Clinic Ltd. Copies will be forwarded, on request, to another veterinary surgeon taking over the case. We reserve the right to make an administration charge for this where we feel the workload involved justifies such.
Pets requiring long-
Some of our flea and worm treatments are Prescription Only Medicines and can only be dispensed to pets that have been examined by our veterinary surgeon within the last 12 months; these examinations may incur a charge, however as most of our patients receive an annual health-
The Medicines Act requires that we use only veterinary licensed products when treating your animal. In the event of a veterinary licensed product being unavailable, we reserve the right to use a product licensed for another species after carrying out the appropriate risk/benefit analysis. You may asked to sign an “off label” consent form.
We can provide a written prescription for a medicinal product subject to certain conditions and a fee will be payable to us for this service.
Outside of our normal working hours emergency cover is provided by Barn Lodge Veterinary Hospital in Ormskirk. For further information and directions click here.
An emergency fee will be payable, in addition to any treatment received.
Home visits are available if booked in advance but it is usually in the best interests of your cat to be seen at the surgery. This is because your cat will find it stressful having the vet come into your house (its own territory) and trying to examine it. Most cats are much better behaved in the surgery. In addition if your cat is unwell we have a full range of drugs and diagnostic equipment to treat it.
We are very sympathetic to some owner’s wishes to have their cat put to sleep in their own home. We will always try wherever possible to accommodate this.
It may not be possible to carry out home visits outside normal surgery hours. Please speak to our staff if you are considering a home visit.
Please be aware that a home visit is significantly more expensive than a routine consultation in the clinic.
Whilst we make every effort to send out reminders for vaccinations, it is your responsibility to ensure that they are kept up to date and that they meet the requirements of any boarding establishment used, country visited or pet insurance plan in force.
We recommend that you provide us with mobile and email addresses so that we can also use electronic means for these reminders for your convenience.
We hope that clients never have reason to complain about the standards of service received from our veterinary clinic. However, if there does appear to be cause for complaint, this should be put in writing to the clinic or an appointment made to discuss the issue with the practice owner.
